Training in Emergency Ultrasound

The use of focussed ultrasound in Emergency Medicine is a key skill of the modern emergency physician. As an Emergency Medicine trainee, you are expected to acquire this skill in the course of training.

The are five elements to Core Ultrasound Training

1 Completion of a Core (Level 1) RCEM approved course OR approved local modular training. For CSTEM trainees, attendance at the CSTEM Ultrasound training day meets this criterium.

2 Completion of 7 essential RCEMLearning Online sessions. These are available at http://www.rcemlearning.co.uk

3 A general logbook evidencing on-going experience and the use of ultrasound in appropriate clinical cases and settings.

4 A reflective logbook of 10 pictorial case studies

5 Final sign-off by means of competency sign-off
