Emergency Medicine is a fulfilling and exciting career choice for a newly qualified doctor. It is a specialty in demand all over the world and can open doors to multiple subspecialty interests.
Training in Emergency Medicine in Ireland is administered by the Irish Committee for Emergency Medicine Training (ICEMT) which is a sub-committee of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. The National Emergency Medicine Training Programme (NEMTP) consists of Core Specialty Training in Emergency Medicine (CSTEM) and Advanced Specialty Training in Emergency Medicine (ASTEM). From July 2017, it will take 7 years to complete these two programmes. Trainees obtain the Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM) by examination to become eligible for specialist registration as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine.
